The Artist
Mojoh (pronounced moe-joe) is a digital artist, illustrator and painter. He hails from Wilmington, NC. His work embodies the spirit of hip-hop with a nod to 90’s graffiti characters. Now…disclaimer, he does not consider himself a graffiti artist. He grew up with a fondness of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Looney Toons, Thundercats and other 80’s and 90’s cartoons. He also loved reading comic books. Some of his favorites included Daredevil, X-Men, Spiderman and others. His interest also expanded into liking more “serious” artwork which led him to the works of artists like Earnie Barnes, Norman Rockwell, and Leonardo DaVinci. He likes to describe his work as colorful and playful but thoughtful. He believes that the need to create and inspire is in everyone. You only need to figure out the key to unlocking it.
The Name
A name is very important to an artist. It is how people recognize and identify you with the work. So where does the name MoJoh come from? It was given to the artist by way of an old employer. The name is comprised of two letters of the artist’s first name, Marion, and three letters of their last name, Johnson. The logo that was created from the name has meaning as well. The logo is also a cautionary reminder to never judge things by what you initially see. At first glance, it seems as if there are devil horns and tail. That is an intentional choice that reflects how the work should be judged…with an open mind. Never trust what you initially see or feel. The reality is that it stands for family and has the four zodiac signs of the artist’s family.
The Crab
The crab represents the Cancer. The arrow does double duty becoming the crab’s claw, body, legs, and eye stalks. One claw open and the other closed to show the on again off again emotions. Though sometimes crabby, very protective and dependable.
The Arrow
The arrow represents Sagittarius. . It is pointing downward to suggest youth. It’s also curved to suggest an aloof personality rather than the straighter path.
The horns
The horns are bull horns representing the Taurus. Sometimes stubborn but very reliable. They are located on the outside symbolizing the idea of holding things together.
The halo
The halo is for the Aquarius. The dripping edge represents the flow of the water bearer. It’s an ellipse which symbolizes completion and fulfillment. It is the crown of the name.
